Decades after Mario and Luigi Irons led mankind to settle the red planet a new family began to take center stage. Jack Lagroose, his wife Aurelia, his friends and family, and others like him work together and sometimes against each other as they try to bring mankind kicking and screaming to the stars. Love, heartbreak, loss, genetic engineering, starships, AI, sabotage, terraforming, and all sorts of other things are tucked into mankind's past, present, and future.

This is a difficult book. It is actually many stories blended together to expand aspects of the Wandering Engineer's universe. It is very well written and I like Chris Hechtl's writing style but this book misses five stars. Several story arcs have a suspenseful build up and a 'and then he/she/it dies' ending. I had to read this book slowly and frequently re-read parts (not an easy thing to do with Ebooks) to remember where the author had left that story arc as he went to length to describe what someone had for lunch. I liked the book because the author constructed a very full, coherent, and complex framework for his future universe but many story arcs were weak.Product details

To Touch the Stars Founding of the Federation Book 2 eBook Chris Hechtl Reviews
I have no time now with major family health problems etc other than to say it is one of the most brilliant stories of the advancement of man to the stars I have ever read. I look forward very much to reading more of this story which has damaged my eyesight, reading hours into the night and ruined my ability to get a decent sleep. I am considering taking legal action to recover some of my medical expenses. Please keep up the good work.
Man well I'll say this all of there's books are great infat ther are only getting better
I really love this universe. It has a little bit of everything in it. Space. Hyperspace. Genetics. Status. Uplifting. War. And some of you love and mystery.
It is hard I know to go back in time and do a prelude to a existing book series but this one is better than some others and starting to explain the beginnings of the federation and some of the species that will populate it later.
Good book a must for the fans of the wandering engineer and the black panther.
This book seems to cover about 50 years worth of the next area of the early history of man kind in the Wandering Engineer universe. It seems to mainly cover the early years of hyper exploration and the basic fighting of man kind amongst himself at this point in history. Overall I enjoyed the story the book contained and it is interesting to see how things had developed. If your a fan of Chris Hechtl you should enjoy the tales spun within!
A little slow in spots but when you can keep the interest going over such a long book it deserves 4 stars. A lot more personal interaction and character development in this book than the author's previous novels. There's just enough space action, although I would have liked more engineering bootstrap workarounds, but that's just my personal preference.
I recommend that people read "First Steps" by same author prior to this book.
A prequel, that as even the author says is a little bit dry, but that introduces so much of the stories and history of his other books. A good enough book to read on it's own, but an excellent book to read if you are a fan and know his other books. Although I would probably have given 5 stars, I gave 4 for that little bit of dryness as I normally like a book with lots of action. Highly recommended to any fan, and suggested for any reader looking for possible futures.
